In 2026 we will be buying Windows laptops with new hardware, the time of Intel, AMD and x86 dominance is over

Qualcomm has published new internal data suggesting that processors from the Snapdragon X2 Plus series achieve significantly better results in performance and energy efficiency compared to current mobile chips from Intel and AMD designed for Windows laptops.

Tests were conducted on systems with Windows 11 OS, using Geekbench 6.5 and UL Procyon tools. According to the company, the 10-core Snapdragon X2 Plus achieves up to 3.1 times better multi-core CPU performance at the same power consumption, with a 52% higher peak performance level. To achieve similar performance, competing x86 processors reportedly require up to 4.4 times more power.

In single-core tests, Snapdragon X2 Plus shows 3.5 times better energy efficiency and up to 28% higher maximum results compared to AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 and Intel Core Ultra 7 256V / 265U.

Qualcomm also mentions a significant generational jump compared to the Snapdragon X Elite series. The 10-core version brings 35% better single-core performance, 17% better multi-core performance, 29% more powerful GPU and even 78% stronger AI acceleration through the NPU. The 6-core model sees similar improvements, including 35% better single-core and 39% better graphics performance.

In AI tests, the NPU in the Snapdragon X2 Plus processor scores 83,624 points in the Geekbench AI test, which is about six times higher than the Intel Core Ultra 7 265U, as well as almost 6.4 times better in the UL Procyon Computer Vision tests. The AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 did not even deliver a valid result in this comparison.

The company notes that the actual performance in finished laptops will depend on the design of the device, the cooling system and the long-term permitted energy consumption. The first commercial models with Snapdragon X2 Plus processors are expected in early 2026, reports VideoCardz.
