Intel’s 13th generation Raptor Lake processors may continue to support DDR4

Intel the design decision was the choice to keep the support for DDR4 memory. Users worried about the very high price DDR5 memories can purchase a Z690 motherboard with DDR4 support, allowing them to continue using memory kits that are likely to serve them for years.

Portal PC Gamer suggests that 13th generation CPUs “Raptor Lake“ Could continue to support DDR4 memory. So, if you are thinking about switching to a 12th generation system and are hesitant to spend a lot of money on a DDR5 kit, then leaving DDR4 memory and buying a new board is still a smart move. If Raptor Lake supports DDR4, hopefully the 13th generation CPU will be compatible with Z690 DDR4 boards after the BIOS update.

DDR5 memory certainly offers a lot of bandwidth, but games generally prefer a mix of high frequency and low timing, which provides low latency. The weakness of DDR5 memory at this early stage is its relatively high timing and cost. Even high-performance kits can’t match the low-latency of high-performance DDR4 kits, which means DDR4 is still perfectly sustainable for a 12th-generation system.

If the information from the rumors turns out to be correct, then buying a quality low-latency kit of 3600 MHz could prove to be a very reasonable investment. We hope you get at least a few more years of fore, by which time we hope DDR5 kits will be more affordable.
