The new, ultra-thin iPhone Air has been subjected to a series of durability tests by popular YouTube channel JerryRigEverything.
The device has an extremely thin profile of just 5.6 millimeters, so it’s understandable to be skeptical about its potential durability. However, other ultra-thin devices, such as the Galaxy S25 Edge, have survived the test. Will the same happen to the Apple phone?
The first was an assessment of scratch resistance. The Ceramic Shield 2 glass on the front and back of the device showed strong resistance. The first visible scratches only appeared at level 7 on the Mohs hardness scale.

However, these were extremely light scratches, which would be unnoticeable to many. This is an outstanding result considering that most competing glass protectors start to show scratches at the same level, and sometimes even deep ones.
The screen was then exposed to a lighter flame for 30 seconds and showed no signs of permanent damage. However, a separate test found that the screen did not respond to touch when splashed with water. This points to a potential usability issue in wet conditions, as with most phones.
