McMurtry begins production of the Spéirling “fan car” and expands the business into the technology sector

McMurtry Automotive, the British company known for breaking records at the Goodwood circuit and its Spéirling model, which can “drive on the ceiling”, is celebrating its tenth anniversary these days. But instead of a party, the first decade will be crowned with strategic expansion and the start of production of its first commercial model.

Richard i Ben McMurtrysons of the founder and innovator sir David McMurtrytook the main role in the realization of their father’s vision. A key next step is the opening of a new 2,700 m² facility in Wotton-under-Edge, England, which will serve as a hub for the production of Spéirling PURE models and the development of future projects. While the plants are being prepared for series production, McMurtry Automotive plans to further expand the model range in the coming years.

New technology division

Alongside vehicle production, the company has established a new division called McMurtry Technology, which will focus on commercializing the portfolio of patents developed during work on the Spéirling project. McMurtry Technology already generates seven-figure revenues (in pounds) working with prominent automotive clients, enabling other manufacturers to access their engineering solutions.

The focus of the new division includes five key areas: Downforce on Demand, high-performance battery technology, electric propulsion systems, facilitating vehicle construction and specialized software.

The Spéirling PURE, the first model to enter production, is a single-seater with an electric drive and a thrust fan system (so-called fan car) and has already covered more than 5,000 test kilometers with prototypes. Its price is 995,000 British pounds (about 1.4 million euros) without taxes, delivery and additional options. The company confirmed that the first copies will be delivered to customers during the summer of 2026.
