On this day 25 years ago, the first game from the NBA Street series was launched for PlayStation 2, which took its basketball out of the hall and onto the street courts.
In various basketball games in the 90s, basketball could be played outside the halls and the parquet. However, this was usually reserved for individual modes, not quite the entire game. Electronic Arts saw an opportunity there and launched it for PlayStation 2 in 2001 NBA Street.
It was a three-on-three arcade basketball game. The game was played according to the well-known “street” rules – each basket was worth one point, a three-pointer was worth two, and the winner was the one who first reached 21 points with at least two points against the opponent.
The result was important, but so was NBA Street it is important to perform attractive moves like dribbling or dunking. Once the attractiveness meter was filled, the team would be given the ability to perform gamebreakera in which points are won and taken away from the rival team at the same time.
Many basketball players of that time appeared in the game, including Michael Jordan. Admittedly, some basketball players were not licensed but served as inspiration for fictional characters. It was also possible create your own character with which the main mod was played.

NBA Street received excellent reviews upon release. Versions for GameCube and Xbox followed later, and together the game went over more than five million copies sold. A sequel was inevitable and appeared already two years later.
The success of the series encouraged the development of other “street” sports, including FIFA Street. The last game in the series, NBA Street Homecourt, was released back in 2007, but since then we have had numerous other games of this type, such as NBA Playgrounds, NBA: The Run, etc.
