Subaru has unveiled a 25-minute ‘walk around’ video of the Solterra model; the first fully electric Subaru SUV. The video reveals a model for the European market that will arrive on the Old Continent in the middle of next year.
Using knowledge developed with the highly acclaimed Subaru Global Platform, the Japanese manufacturer has developed the e-Subaru Global Platform together with Toyota Motor Corporation as a platform for BEV vehicles.
2023 Subaru Solterra SUV specs
Solterra has the following dimensions: length 4690 mm, width 1860 mm, height 1650 mm, wheelbase 2850 mm, minimum height from the ground 210 mm. Subaru also states that the cabin is 1940 mm long, 1515 mm wide and 1160 mm high with a normal and ‘solar’ roof and 1145 mm with a glass roof.

Subaru Solterra will, according to currently available data for the Japanese model, have versions with front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). In the case of the front-wheel drive model, the power of 150 kW (204hp) is given, and in the case of the AWD model it has two electric motors, one on each axle of 80 kW (109hp) for a total system output of 160 kW (218hp). . According to preliminary data, the Solterra with all-wheel drive has a torque of 335 Nm and accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 7.6 s.

Solterra Battery
In both versions, the Solterra uses a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 71.4 kWh and a voltage of 355 volts. Solterra uses an AC charger of max. 6.6 kW and DC charger of max. 150 kW. We also learned that Subaru promises 90 percent battery capacity for a minimum of 10 years.
In terms of range, the FWD model can cover a distance of approximately 530 km (according to the Japanese WLTC standard) with a single charge, and the AWD model approximately 460 km (WLTC).

Like other Subaru SUV models, the Solterra has an X-MODE AWD control system that enhances the feeling of safety on uneven surfaces. By adding a new Grip Control function, which allows the vehicle to drive at a constant speed, stabilizing the vehicle even on uneven surfaces, the ability is further improved.
By designing the skeleton shape of each body part and optimizing the strength of the material, Solterra achieves weight reduction and superior collision safety at the same time. In the event of a collision, the structure that transfers the load to multiple skeletons of the vehicle body efficiently absorbs the energy of the collision. It not only protects the occupants of the vehicle, but also protects the high-voltage equipment in the BEV.
