Nikon Z9 will face the current top cameras without mirrors from Sony and Canon, which is never an easy job. The company has also announced several highly anticipated lenses to expand its impressive Z-mount line.
Nikon has packed impressive specs in the Z9, which has a physical profile similar to that of its premium DSLRs, with a built-in vertical handle. It also features a unique touch screen that avoids the fully articulated design that most modern cameras have adopted in favor of a tilt design that is more flexible than that found in their Z6 II and Z7 II cameras, and is capable of tilting more than one axis . The Z9 features a 45.7-megapixel CMOS sensor and an Expeed 7 image processor that allows it to shoot at a high speed of 20 images in full-size RAW format per second with a 1,000-image buffer or 30 images in JPEG format. It also has an original ISO range of 64-24,600, which can be expanded to 32-102,400.
For those photographers who worry about how much space such huge files will take up, don’t worry; The Z9 has a new high-performance RAW file format that reduces file size to a third of traditional uncompressed RAW images without losing image data, which is a great thing if you plan to take full advantage of this giant.
The big innovation here, however, is that the Z9 does not have a mechanical shutter, but relies entirely on an electronic shutter, writes Digital trends. This removes a bunch of moving parts from the system, which could potentially contribute to a far greater degree of durability. The sensor itself was made by Nikon, which previously used Sony sensors in its cameras. The sensor is doubly coated with a fluorine coating and an electro-conductive dust repellent coating. AF tracking has also been significantly improved, with a subject detection algorithm that can track a range of nine different types of subjects, including cars, trains, bicycles, motorcycles, pets, humans, birds, trains, and airplanes. These subjects are automatically detected and tracked when shooting in auto-area mode. The Nikon claims that the Z9 can focus faster than any other Nikon camera and integrate enhanced eye tracking. The autofocus in low light is enhanced so the Z9 can focus on an incredible -8.5 EV.
V9’s vibration reduction is also enhanced by an image stabilization system called Nikon’s Synchro VR, which it claims allows you to reduce jitter by up to six degrees depending on which lens you use. The new VR security lock prevents damage due to rough handling when the camera is turned off.
The Z9 is making big strides in terms of its video capabilities, as it is capable of recording up to 8K at 30 frames per second (fps), and can do so in an incredible maximum recording time of 125 minutes in ProRes 233 HQ or H.265 formats. It can also record 4K at 120 fps for great slow resolution high definition video. As icing on the cake, Nikon promises to introduce 8K 60 fps video recording in 12-bit ProRes Raw and 12-bit N-raw formats, along with other professional movie recording features in a free firmware update sometime during 2022.
As if all of this wasn’t exciting enough for professional photographers and videographers, Nikon has also announced several new professional lenses for the system: the Nikkor Z 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 VR S and 24-120mm f / 4. It also develops a 400mm f / 2.8 lens with a built-in 1.4x teleconverter. There’s also a new FTZ adapter that offers a sleeker profile as opposed to the older model, which had a large, bulky tripod mount that interfered with some accessories.
New Nikon Z9 camera Price and release date
The Nikon Z9 will be available for purchase sometime before the end of 2021 for $ 5,499. At this price, and with these features, this could be a great purchase, as this camera in some ways surpasses the capabilities of comparable Canon and Sony cameras which are significantly more expensive.
