The latest Windows 11 update, tagged as KB5074109, has caused a backlash among users. Although the patch brings a number of security improvements, there have been numerous reports of a noticeable drop in gaming performance on PCs with Nvidia GeForce graphics cards.
On paper, KB5074109 should be an extremely important update. The update closes as many as 114 security flaws, which makes it practically mandatory for everyone who cares about system security. In addition, the problem on computers with NPU coprocessors is also solved, which improves the autonomy of the so-called “AI PC” devices.
Windows 11 update degrades GeForce performance in games
Shortly after installing the update, some users with GeForce graphics cards reported significant framerate drops in games. In one of the recorded cases, the drop was between 15 and 20 fps. Restoring the system to the point before the update was installed reportedly immediately restored the lost performance. So far, almost all reported cases relate to Nvidia GPUs, although the possibility that other graphics cards are also affected cannot be ruled out. The exact cause of the problem is still unknown, nor is it clear whether it will be resolved through a future driver update.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time a Windows upgrade has negatively affected gaming performance. The October 2025 update is already known to reduce the performance of Nvidia graphics cards in certain games. The current situation with KB5074109 again calls into question the stability and optimization of the Windows 11 platform.
Microsoft recently announced that it is working on improving the basic performance of Windows 11. However, problems like this clearly show that the company still has serious work to do to make the system faster, more stable and more reliable, especially for the gaming community, reports OC3D.
