Škoda Superb iV now also with a more powerful drive of 200 kW

Škoda has expanded the offer of the fourth generation of the Superb model by introducing a more powerful version of the plug-in hybrid drive. In addition to the existing 150 kW variant, customers of the Superba iV limousine now have a powertrain with exactly 200 kW (268 hp) at their disposal. This increase in performance is a direct consequence of the upgrade of the internal combustion engine 1.5 TSI, whose power has increased from 110 to 130 kW, with new software settings.

Although the power of the electric motor remained at 85 kW, and the battery capacity at 25.7 kWh, the total torque of the system increased by 50 Nm and now amounts to 400 Nm. Thanks to these modifications, the Superb iV offers drive flexibility at all speeds, thus positioning it as the brand’s most powerful model in the current range that uses an internal combustion engine.

The brakes have also been improved

Improved performance is accompanied by significant changes to the braking system. At the front of the vehicle, the cooling system has been changed, which now uses a special channel hidden behind the bumper instead of a grille in the wheel housing. The rear brakes are completely new, with 310mm diameter and 22mm thick ventilated discs, a significant improvement over the standard 300x12mm discs on the lesser version.

This type of braking system is taken from the fastest purely gasoline variant (2.0 TSI 4×4), which is necessary considering the improved dynamics. The new 200 kW Superb iV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds. That’s a full second faster than the 150 kW version and only 1.5 seconds slower than the most powerful four-wheel drive gasoline engine.

Availability and performance

Despite the introduction of a more powerful option, the existing 150 kW version remains on offer. The new, more powerful version of 200 kW will be available exclusively in the sedan version of the Superb. Customers who opt for the sedan will be able to choose between both power levels as part of the Selection equipment package. On the other hand, the wagon version Superb iV Combi maintains the current strategy and will continue to be available exclusively with the proven plug-in hybrid system with a power of 150 kW.
