Company Qualcomm officially announced Snapdragon Reality Eliteits next-generation XR platform that aims to redefine spatial computing capabilities (spatial computing). This chip is purpose-built to power XR environments and bring advanced AI performance directly to the devices themselves.
Powerful generative AI support and device types
Snapdragon Reality Elite will power stand-alone video-see-through (VST) helmets and high-performance headsets, as well as lightweight optical-see-through (OST) smart glasses that connect to phones or computers.
The chipset brings powerful generative AI capabilities to the devices themselves, as it has performance of even 48 TOPS-a for AI data processing. This allows it to run advanced AI models, including large-scale linguistic models (LLM) and large-scale visual models (LVM). This makes spatial computing more personal, adapted to each individual, also more natural and faster.
Longer battery life and better cooling
The new XR platform supports simultaneous image display, data entry and charging on all connected devices. In addition, the chip is maximally optimized for low power consumption.
Qualcomm
QualcommQualcomm claims that the new platform brings the following improvements in energy efficiency:
- Allows up to 20% longer battery life at the same workload compared to its predecessor i
- Maintains the device until 12°C cooler under full load.
These savings were achieved through optimization of the main processor (CPU), graphics chip (GPU) and neural unit (NPU). This enables longer and more comfortable use of the device.
QualcommA jump in performance and image quality
Compared to the older Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 model, the new Snapdragon Reality Elite delivers a jump in raw power. Qualcomm lists the following improvements:
- Processor performance is higher by up to 30%
- Graphics performance has been improved by up to 60% i
- The speed of data processing on the neural processor is even higher 160%.
The chipset also brings support for a resolution of 4.4K po oku pri 90 fpswhich provides sharper details, better color fidelity and smooth motion. Advancements in the VST segment reduce latency and improve image quality, so digital content blends more naturally with the physical world. This was achieved by hardware acceleration (through the so-called EVA block) which successfully processes demanding visual data.
Snapdragon Reality Elite will power the device first XREAL Project Aura which is launched at the end of this year, and will be found inside the brand’s new generation of devices Play for Dream. Read more details at official page.
