The controversial game Doki Doki Literature Club has been removed from the Android platform


Four months after launching on the Google Play Store, the visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club has been removed from distribution on the Android platform.

Visual novela Doki Doki Literature Club it got its mobile version last year, after becoming popular on the PC platform and consoles since 2017. However, yesterday Google changed their mind about distributing that game, so DDLC was removed from sale in the Google Play Store.

According to the explanation from Google, it is a game broke their rules regarding the display of sensitive topics. However, it is not clear why they even released it for distribution five months ago if that is the case.

Doki Doki Literature Club is normally a game that at first looks like a romantic adventure, but turns into psychological horror which often develops a fourth wall and tries to make the player think that it is more than a game. The game has so far proved controversial because teenage suicides have been linked to it, including one in Croatia.

The makers of the game disagree with Google’s view of the game as harmful, saying:

“DDLC has been widely praised for its portrayal of mental health that deeply resonates with players around the world, helping them feel seen, understood and less alone on their journey.”
