Android flagship phones will be even more expensive: Qualcomm raises prices

The cost of producing Android phones is increasing day by day, so for users who are planning to replace their device, now might be the most favorable moment. As the new generation of flagship phones approaches, it is increasingly likely that their price will be significantly higher.

According to a Bloomberg report, Qualcomm has informed its customers that it plans to increase chip prices. The price increase should be a double-digit percentage, and the new prices will apply to processors delivered after September 1.

Qualcomm says that component shortages and constant price increases at suppliers have meant that the company can no longer absorb rising costs on its own. Before the price hike decision, Qualcomm reportedly tried to find alternative component suppliers to ease the pressure, but that wasn’t enough to avoid a price correction.

Qualcomm’s chip price hike raises the price of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 phone

This information comes just before the Snapdragon Summit 2026 event, which is scheduled for September 22. Qualcomm is then expected to introduce the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chips, so it is now assumed that the new flagship platform will be reflected in higher production costs from the start.

This means that the next generation of Android flagship phones could become even more expensive. According to foreign media estimates, a high-end Android phone using Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 NAND for data storage could cost around $600 for these three key components alone.

Qualcomm’s price hike won’t just affect phones. Higher chip prices could also affect wearables, PCs and other consumer electronics. The company announced the Snapdragon C platform earlier this year, aimed at a Windows PC priced around $300. If manufacturers pass on additional costs to customers, such devices could also end up with a higher final price.

Android products are not the only ones under pressure. Recently, information appeared that TSMC already started in June, and during this month concluded negotiations with major clients on new production prices. According to those reports, from 2027, silicon disk manufacturing costs could increase by 5% to 10% across production lines, including 7 nm, 3 nm and 2 nm processes.

Since Apple is one of the biggest users of TSMC’s advanced manufacturing processes, future iPhone generations could also feel the effects of this wave of price hikes. In other words, the rise in component prices is no longer the problem of just one manufacturer or one ecosystem, but a wider pressure that could mark the next generation of premium phones and make them hard to reach for most potential buyers.
