The police first excluded the defective vehicle from traffic, and then the tow truck that came to pick it up

Last Tuesday, May 5, at the Pešćenica rest stop on the A11 highway (between Sisak and Zagreb), the police officers of the Sisak-Moslavina Police Department, in cooperation with the employees of the Croatian Vehicle Center with the mobile station for technical inspection of vehicles, the inspection of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Croatian Roads and the State Inspectorate, carried out a preventive and repressive action aimed at monitoring the technical condition of vehicles.

More than one violation per vehicle

These strong forces of inspectors and policemen blocked the highway, diverted traffic through the aforementioned rest area and targeted vans, trucks and all other vehicles that seemed suspicious to them from the slow-moving convoy. According to the PU of Sisak-Moslavina, 41 vehicles were checked, and 50 violations were recorded.

Since professional drivers are also controlled, there were violations related to working hours (observed on the tachograph), a total of 45 violations were recorded according to the Road Traffic Safety Act, of which 28 related to vehicle technical malfunctions. At the extraordinary technical inspection, which was carried out immediately there, dangerous defects were found in nine vehicles and they were excluded from traffic – and one case attracted the special attention of the police, so we also learned something more about it.

Everyone in turn for inspection

Namely, in this “raid” the police singled out a car with Sisak registration, driven by a 30-year-old man, subjected it to an extraordinary technical inspection, and found that it had technical defects categorized as dangerous, and the vehicle was excluded from traffic. The problem was, as we found out, uncertified spoilers installed on the body and “distances” on the wheels – which was enough for the police to remove the license plates from the car and prevent further driving.

The driver of that vehicle then contacted the towing service, and when their truck arrived at the rest stop, the zealous and meticulous police immediately sent him for an extraordinary technical inspection (when he was already there…). The towing service, which was driven by a 24-year-old man, was also declared dangerous due to the observed defects. The offense that was characterized as “disqualifying” for him were – uncertified LED lamps and some observed corrosion on the bodywork.

Seeing this, the police quickly removed him from the traffic and filed misdemeanor charges against both drivers and legal and responsible persons in the towing service. The driver of the “defective” car then had to continue the journey in another way, and call another (technically perfect) towing service to pick up his vehicle.
