During regular traffic control on Sunday, March 15, 2026, around 2:30 a.m., Zagreb police officers stopped a personal vehicle with Zagreb license plates in the area of Trnje. The vehicle was driven by a 36-year-old man who was traveling along Radnička cesta, and was stopped at house number 27, the Zagreb PU reports.
The surveillance of the driver and the vehicle revealed that the driver was driving the car under the significant influence of alcohol – a breathalyzer showed a concentration of 1.55 g/kg of alcohol in his body. Upon further checking of the data, the police officers found that he was behind the wheel even though his driver’s license was previously revoked because he had collected the maximum number of negative misdemeanor points. This immediately placed this driver in the category of dangerous recidivists, so he was immediately arrested.
After his arrest, he was brought to the competent Municipal Misdemeanor Court in Zagreb. In their indictment proposal, the police asked the court for strict sanctions, including a high fine, but also the strictest measure provided for by law – permanent confiscation of the means of transport. The court fully accepted the allegations of the police and found the defendant guilty on all charges.
He was fined EUR 5,000, which is one of the higher legally prescribed sanctions for this type of traffic offense. In addition to the fine, the court made a decision on the permanent and free confiscation of the passenger car driven by the offender. According to the verdict, the vehicle was confiscated in favor of the Republic of Croatia.
