The Sleeping Dogs movie got its director

The planned film adaptation of Sleeping Dogs has both a script and a director. Now all that remains is to find a studio that would be interested in financing the film.

Actor Donnie Yen has been trying to adapt the game for years Sleeping Dogs in the film version. However, at the beginning of 2025, he announced that it did not bear fruit for him and that he was giving up on that venture. After that, another actor, Sima Liu, took on the task of making a screen version of Sleeping Dogs, and his attempt is proving to be more successful so far.

It will be Timo Tjahjantoan Indonesian filmmaker who has experience making action films. Earlier this year, Tjahjanto directed the action hit Nobody 2.

Now, although a lot is ready for the screen version of Sleeping Dogs, Simu Liu and Timo Tjahjanto they still haven’t found a studio which would finance the recording. And that is the main prerequisite for the story of detective Wei Shen to be realized on the big screen. The search will therefore continue in 2026.
