A few weeks ago, information appeared that Samsung plans to call the next “Plus” model the Galaxy S26 Plus, instead of the previous designation with the “+” sign. However, the company changed its mind in the meantime and returned to the classic naming, so the device will again be called Galaxy S26+. At the same time, Samsung also gave up using the “Pro” designation for the base model.
Ever since 2020 and the presentation of the Galaxy S20 series, Samsung has been using the so-called three-tier structure of its premium phones: the basic model, the Plus variant and the Ultra version. That concept has been maintained for years without major changes, and it seemed that the Galaxy S26 series would bring a break with that tradition, which will not happen now.
Samsung is making a complete U-turn in naming the Galaxy S26 series
Earlier reports suggested that Samsung might scrap the Plus model and introduce a new, ultra-slim Galaxy S26 Edge, as well as renaming the base model the Galaxy S26 Pro. However, according to the latest information, the company has made a complete U-turn and returned to the proven naming system.
The base model is again called the Galaxy S26, the middle variant is called the Galaxy S26+, while the Ultra version retains the name Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung briefly used the name S26 Plus without the “+” sign, but that idea has now been abandoned. The information comes from the new regulatory documentation, which is referred to by the source @erenylmaz075.
The Ultra model will not go through changes in name, but certain changes in design are expected. According to available information, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could get more rounded edges, instead of the previously recognizable, angular shape with sharp corners.
When it comes to the Galaxy S26 Edge model, Samsung has suspended that project for the time being. Although there is a possibility that a second-generation slim premium model will appear in the future, the S26 Edge will not be part of the initial Galaxy S26 series, which is expected to be unveiled at the end of February.
In this way, for 2026, Samsung will stick with the classic offer consisting of the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra, with slight design changes, but without radical changes in the naming strategy, reports SammyGuru.
