Toyota plans to produce 30 EV models by 2030

Toyota and Lexus’ offer should be significantly expanded in the near future with new electric cars, at least 15 of them, and by the end of the decade with as many as 30 battery e-vehicles

President of Toyota Motor Corporation Akio Toyoda presented to the media the global strategy of this company regarding a major initiative to switch to battery electric vehicles. Toyota, we know, has so far been among the most conservative in this regard, dealing with hybrids and hydrogen, but it seems that they still “gave up” under the pressure of new trends.

Toyoda has announced that as many as 30 completely new models of electric cars will be offered on the market under the Toyota and Lexus brands by the end of the decade. At the same time, by 2030, they plan to sell about 3.5 million electric vehicles a year. Earlier electrification plans set this target at 2 million, so it is an ambitious increase of as much as 75%.

Toyota’s plans include fully electrifying the brand’s offer in Europe by 2030, in accordance with regulations, even earlier than required by the EU. In Western Europe, Toyota will eliminate 100% of its carbon emissions from its business by 2035, Toyoda also announced.

Lexus will become a fully electric vehicle brand by 2035, and by 2030 it should sell as many as one million electric vehicles a year. In order to achieve all these goals, the management decided to significantly increase the planned investments in battery development. Instead of the previously proposed 500 billion yen, the investment plan has quadrupled to about 2 trillion yen (about 15.5 billion euros).
