GTA 5 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series becomes free if you have the PS4 and XBO version

Rockstar Games has decided that GTA 5 will no longer charge for upgrading PS4 and XBO versions to PS5 and XS versions.

From tomorrow, 6/18, Rockstar Games will no longer charge to upgrade GTA 5 to PS5 and XS versions. If you have GTA 5 in the PS4 and XBO versions, you can update the game to the newer PS5 and XS editions without paying.

Rockstar initially charged 10 euros for the upgrade to the PS5 and XS versions, but after the promotional period ended, players had to buy the game at a price of 40 euros (or at a discount) to get performance in 60 fps, raytracing effects, etc.

Last year, GTA 5 upgrades from current consoles came to the PC platform, but owners of the PC version fared better because they didn’t have to pay anything for them.

This move is probably Rockstar’s preparation for the potential end of support for GTA Online on old consoles. The servers for the PS3 and X360 versions of the game were shut down eight years after launch, so it’s not inconceivable that the same thing will happen to the PS4 and XBO versions of the game sometime soon.
