Windows 11 Start menu finally gets full control, Microsoft introduces customization and better performance

The Windows 11 Start menu is finally getting long-sought changes because Microsoft is launching a radical reconstruction through the internal Windows K2 project.

The new version of the Start menu brings a significant expansion of customization options. Users will be able to manually choose between a larger and smaller display, instead of the previous automatic adjustment according to the screen size.

An even more important change is complete control over content. It will be possible to turn off the recommendations section, remove pinned applications or even hide the complete list of programs with one stroke. All options will be available directly in the system settings, without the need for additional tools.

An important focus is also placed on performance. The existing Start menu often shows a delay when opening when the system is under load, while entering text into the search can lead to loss of characters.

The solution comes through the transition to a modern architecture based on WinUI 3, which enables stable and fast response even in demanding work scenarios. The goal is for the Start menu to respond instantly and accurately register each entry.

This change represents the first concrete result in the implementation of the Windows K2 project, whose goal is to improve the overall user experience through greater speed, stability and ease of use.

If the implementation proves successful, similar optimizations can be expected in other key parts of the system, which could finally significantly improve the impression of the Windows 11 platform, reports Windows Central.
