Xiaomi introduced support for Apple AirDrop file sharing

Xiaomi is the latest Android device manufacturer to officially announce that it is bringing support for Apple AirDrop within its Quick Share file sharing functions. The Chinese manufacturer shared the news on social media to the X network through the official account for HyperOS.

According to the company, AirDrop support is already available within the Quick Share option on their devices. However, at the moment it is still not completely clear whether this applies to absolutely all models in the portfolio or only to specific, selected phones (most likely premium class).

How to test

If you own a Xiaomi phone and an Apple device (iPhone, iPad or Mac), you can try the procedure very easily. Start sharing any file on your Xiaomi phone. The Apple device should appear as an option directly within the Quick Share menu.

Don’t forget to discover your device by selecting the Everyone option. In this way, devices that are not in the contact list will also see you. However, you won’t start sharing or receiving files until you or the device you’re sending to approves. That way, you remain visible to everyone, but also protected from unwanted file transfers. If you don’t know someone, and they are trying to share something with you – just don’t confirm the receipt of the file.

When will it be available on all devices?

Reading the fine print below the image, we learned that Xiaomi AirDrop support is only available on the 17T Pro phone at the moment. This will change later with the OTA function, so it will still be necessary to activate this function the latest HyperOS update. So other Android manufacturers have recently taken the same approach when implementing this compatibility.

If it turns out that the software update is mandatory, it could take some time until this option reaches every Xiaomi device that is currently active on the market. Certainly, this is a significant step forward for anyone balancing between these two ecosystems.
