YouTube Music, without much media fanfare, has introduced a very useful upgrade that solves one of the long-standing problems of this popular service: continuing to listen to music on another phone or tablet exactly where it left off.
Although YouTube Music received the option “continue listening“, it initially only worked between mobile devices and the web version on a computer. Switching from one phone to another was still not supported, which greatly limited the practical value of the feature.
YouTube Music sync finally works between mobile devices
The new update now allows the playback order and exact position of the song to be remembered regardless of which mobile device you are using: Android, iOS or web. For example, if you’re listening to music on your tablet at home, then you go out and open YouTube Music on your phone, the app will automatically offer a continuation of the same song or playlist.
In practice, when starting the application on another mobile device, the mini-player immediately displays the last song that was active, without the need for manual search. What previously only worked in the “web mobile device” combination, is now extended to sync between phone and tablet.
While this feature is still simple compared to services like Spotify, it significantly improves the day-to-day use of YouTube Music. It is worth noting that availability may depend on account or region, so the feature will appear gradually for users, writes 9to5Google.
