Renault continues a series of successful collaborations with contemporary designers, thereby promoting its brand and its rich heritage. The latest project was entrusted to an American artist Joshui Videsuwhich was given complete freedom in the redesign of the new Twingo E-Tech electric model. His intervention turned this electric vehicle into an original work of art that combines the automotive industry and contemporary visual expression.
An optical illusion
Vides applied his signature style to the vehicle’s body, transforming it into an object that looks like a sketch. Its monochromatic aesthetic, inspired by comics and cartoons, uses clearly defined contours to visually bring a three-dimensional object back into the world of 2D illustration. With this process, Twingo ceases to be just an industrial product and becomes a work of art – which seems to have fallen out of a comic book into reality.

The process of creating this installation took place live in the Renault Carwalk from April 8 to 13. During the three-day work, the artist transformed the car in front of the visitors, giving the public an insight into the creation of the work. After the performance, the unique Twingo became the centerpiece of the “Pop Art Car” exhibition and will remain on display on the Champs Elysées in Paris until June 9.
Part of the art collection
After the exhibition at the Renault Carwalk, Vides’ creation will become part of the official “Renault Fund” art collection. This collection was founded a few years ago precisely with the aim of researching cars as a medium for contemporary expression. Through such collaborations, the brand seeks to explore the boundaries between art and functional objects, while promoting the car as a platform for free creativity.
