A new God of War has been announced, but without Kratos – Laufey enters the scene

The new God of War game will be the first in which the playable character will no longer be Kratos. We will follow the action in God of War Laufey from the perspective of Kratos’ wife Faye.

In addition to the already confirmed God of War Remake trilogy, a completely new God of War game is also in development for PlayStation 5, although some fans may say that it should not be part of that series. It will be called God of War Laufey and will be the first GOW game where we don’t control Kratos. In his place, the main role will be played by his late wife Faye, also known as Laufey.

After Faye dies, she finds herself in the afterlife of the gods, a place called Everywhen, where deities from different mythologies fight for control. Among these deities, Faye initially resents the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet and the Tibetan war god Begtse.

But Faye also finds helpers along the way: the cosmic cube Phranque and the magic ribbon Rue. In addition to helping her find her way in an unfamiliar place, the duo also serve her well in battle. And that fight is designed as a mix of the Nordic God of War and the principles of the Greek one.

The most important innovation compared to the last games is that the fight has two phases: one on the ground and the other in the air. Faye is also more mobile and agile than Kratos, uses magic and can manipulate souls. This means we can knock the soul out of the opponent, which opens up new combo moves.
