A new survey among PlayStation owners shows that a significant portion of users are seriously considering switching to PC. According to a survey in which more than 7,000 readers participated, as many as 45 percent of the respondents stated that they are seriously considering leaving the PlayStation console in favor of the PC platform.
This attitude was especially strengthened after the news that Sony plans to move away from physical editions of games. However, the poll results should be taken with a grain of salt, as voting did not require an account, and there was the possibility of re-voting using private browser sessions.
According to the results of the survey, only 23 percent of respondents indicated that they plan to stay with PlayStation. Another 15 percent claim to have already switched to PC, while 10 percent of users say they already play on both platforms. This shows that a part of the audience does not necessarily renounce the PlayStation ecosystem immediately, but increasingly uses the PC in parallel.

The main reason for the possible departure from the PlayStation platform is Sony’s decision to cut back on physical game releases. As many as 41 percent of respondents cited this as the reason for moving. At first glance, this seems unusual, as the PC market has long been predominantly digital. However, PC users have a wider selection of stores, more frequent discounts and more control over how they shop.
Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Humble Bundle and other services create competition that often lowers game prices much faster than on consoles. While new PC titles can also run around $70 at launch, later deals are often more aggressive and varied.
How-to-GeekAnother big problem for Sony is the weakening of exclusives. For years, PlayStation justified the price of the console precisely with games that were not available on other platforms. Today, more and more Sony titles, sooner or later, also arrive on PC, so users have a harder time justifying the purchase of a separate console just for a few temporary exclusives.
The text also mentions the increase in hardware prices. Due to more expensive memory and general cost growth, it is expected that the future PS6 console could cross the $1,000 mark. If that happens, the calculus for customers becomes much more difficult, especially if the console no longer offers clear exclusive value.
Unlike Sony, Nintendo still relies on strong exclusives and a hybrid portable format, which gives its consoles a clearer identity. PlayStation, on the other hand, is getting closer to PC in terms of games, but without the same flexibility and breadth of offer.
An additional problem is that generational jumps are no longer so pronounced. Many games are still released for PS4 and PS5, which is why some users don’t have a strong reason to upgrade. Add to that the more expensive games, the uncertain future of physical releases and the increasingly accessible PC gaming, and it’s clear why PlayStation fans are increasingly looking to PCs.
Still, the poll doesn’t mean the PlayStation audience is abandoning Sony en masse. Rather, it shows the growing dissatisfaction and change of mood among the most loyal users.
