Alfa Romeo brings back V6 Quadrifoglio, electric successors delayed until 2028

Stellantis isn’t just reviving V8s in America, it’s also rethinking recent decisions in Europe, albeit for different reasons. After returning diesel engines to the range of some models, the transatlantic conglomerate has now confirmed the return of the Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio models to Europe. Production will resume in March 2026, and the models will remain on sale until 2027.

Almost a decade old models, the Giulia sedan and the Stelvio SUV, return to the market unchanged, with no styling or mechanical updates. The decision to continue production was made to fill the gap in the market caused by the delay of their fully electrified successors.

Let’s remind, Giulia debuted back in June 2015, while Stelvio arrived in November 2016. Both models received a redesign in 2023 that brought mild visual and interior changes, but the powerful Quadrifoglio versions were withdrawn from the American market in mid-2024 and from the European market in mid-2025. The revised plan now ensured their return.

Stellantis has officially extended the production of the current generation Giulia and Stelvio models until the end of 2027. This includes standard versions with 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre turbodiesel engines, as well as the previously discontinued V6-powered Quadrifoglio models. European order books for sports versions open in early March.

The news was accompanied by images of the special edition Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio Collezione, due in December 2025. These models come in Rosso Etna paint with exposed carbon fiber details and dark alloy wheels. The interior is decorated with Sparco seats with a carbon shell and leather and Alcantara upholstery. Production is limited to only 63 units for the markets of China, Japan, Europe and the Middle East.

The original plans predicted that the new generation Stelvio would have its world premiere at the end of 2025 as a fully electric SUV, followed by the Giulia in the form of a fastback crossover. Both models were to be based on the new STLA Large platform. However, as reported by Carscoops, Alfa Romeo engineers were forced to make last-minute changes to adapt the platform for internal combustion engines as well. This turnaround delayed the launch of the redesigned models until 2028.

It remains unclear how Stellantis ensured that the twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 meets Euro 7 standards, but output remains unchanged at 520 hp (383 kW) with 600 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels in the sedan, or to all four wheels in the SUV.
