Along with the confirmation of the Songs of the Past expansion, CD Projekt Red also revealed what their plans for the rest of the Witcher series look like, and the schedule is really ambitious.
After confirming the arrival of the Songs of the Past expansion for The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has now revealed something about the long-term plans for the series. Michał Nowakowski, co-owner and one of the company’s leaders, answered a question on a financial call about potential expansions for the upcoming Witcher trilogy, and the answer was not particularly encouraging.
Nowakowski explained that the aim of the study is launch three Witcher games within six yearswhich by all standards is an extremely ambitious schedule. This is precisely why, as he says, there is currently no room for expansions: it would be difficult, with this pace of development, to also work on expansions for the games from the new trilogy.
If the plan comes to fruition, players would get a new Witcher title approx every two years which for an RPG series of that caliber sounds very ambitious. Of course, there is always the possibility that CD Projekt Red will return to The Witcher 4 or later chapters of the trilogy with expansions after the entire trilogy is completed. Nowakowski did not rule it out, he only emphasized that there is no room for it at the moment.
Let them deliver full-blooded sequels to us first, and then easily for expansions. The development of large RPG titles rarely goes according to plan, and CD Projekt Red knows this well from its own experience.
