Corning has officially unveiled Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, which the company describes as the toughest Gorilla Glass Ceramic material to date. The first smartphone to use this new protection is the moto razr fold, Motorola’s first large folding model, which was publicly shown during MWC 2026 in Barcelona.
Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 combines the properties of glass and ceramics, with precisely embedded crystal structures arranged in the glass base to prevent cracks from spreading through the material. In this way, resistance to breakage is significantly increased, which is crucial for bendable phones that endure both the mechanical pressure of bending and frequent accidental drops.
Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 brings a new definition of durability
Additional strengthening was achieved by ionization, which results in a protective glass that maintains high strength, but also excellent optical properties. Such a combination enables reliable protection of the screen against scratches, stress due to bending and multiple damages caused during prolonged use.
In laboratory tests, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 showed exceptional impact resistance. When falling from a height of more than 2 meters onto a simulated concrete surface, the material remained undamaged. In repeated drop tests, on a surface that simulates asphalt, the screen withstood at least 20 drops from a height of 1 meter without any damage, while standard aluminosilicate glass often cracks on the first drop.
With the introduction of Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 material on the Moto Razr Fold, Corning and Motorola are making it clear that durability has become one of the key priorities in the development of the next generation of folding smartphones.
