For users planning to upgrade their graphics card, the latest information is not encouraging at all. According to the latest information, Nvidia made a decision back in December to suspend the planned refresh with the release of the RTX 50 Super series. The reason is the extremely tight global supply of memory chips, which is why the company decided to redirect limited capacities and resources to the more profitable and sought-after segment of AI accelerators.
The report states that the so-called “Kicker” model, known as the RTX 50 Super, which was supposed to fill the gap in the lineup, has been put on indefinite hold without any new timeframe. Although similar rumors have surfaced before, this is the first time that a serious shift in long-term plans has been reliably indicated.
GeForce RTX 60 series in question
Even worse news for the gaming market is that the next generation of graphics cards could be significantly delayed. The GeForce RTX 60 series, which was originally planned for mass production at the end of 2027, is now very likely sliding towards 2028. This practically means that the market could remain without a real generation refresh for up to two years.
In addition, Nvidia is said to be reducing production of existing RTX 50 gaming GPUs, further worsening the retail situation. Limited supplies are already keeping prices high, and this resource allocation policy further increases the premium on high-end models.
Although the company’s priority is clear: to make the most of the AI boom, the end individual customers pay the price of such a strategy. In the short term, the only new product mentioned concerns the Nvidia N1X/N1 ARM chips for the AI PC concept, but they are not a replacement for classic gaming graphics cards.
Everything indicates that gamers should not expect rapid changes in the coming period, but an extended cycle of the current generation and continued problems with availability and prices, reports The Information.
