Volkswagen has released two more announcement sketches of the new generation of Amarok pick-ups. The new model should arrive on the market in 2022, and was jointly developed with Ford.
Developed by teams in Australia and Europe, this premium pick-up will be produced in South Africa in the future. The two companies agreed last year on a ‘global alliance’, which will include commercial vehicles and electric cars. The new-generation Amarok will be the first model launched as a result of this initiative, and Volkswagen describes it as a ‘major strategic step’. The current Amarok came on the market in 2010, and experienced its first facelift in 2016.
Volkswagen itself describes the new Amarok as a versatile vehicle that can be used for a variety of purposes, whether it is delivering drugs and food to remote places, protecting wildlife in the African savannah or saving lives on the beach, places where pick-ups are used are infinitely diverse. Whether it’s a simple ride on open terrain like a construction site or on rough trails – the highlights of the new Amarok are without a doubt its versatility and off-road capabilities.
And according to these sketches the new Amarok looks good and seems to be very capable. The new Amarok not only has a completely new look, but in the future it will also have even more extensive equipment that is useful not only when used as a working tool.
Now in its third generation, the new vehicle has significantly more driver assistance systems and knows how to impress customers in terms of connectivity. From 2022, VW Amarok will contain innovations that ‘have not been seen in this segment so far’. Still, of course, no uneven terrain will stop him.
As a multi-purpose model, the new VW Amarok impresses with its convincing lines and overall look. ‘The striking front end and, above all, the X design clearly set the new Amarok apart and emphasize its claim to be a leader,’ confirms Albert-Johann Kirzinger, head of design at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. ‘We have given the strength and power of the new Amarok an unambiguous expression – with clear Volkswagen DNA, inside and out.’ It shows the confidence of the model, who is visually impressive and who supports men and women who are creating the future. ‘
Amarok from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has been in series production since 2010. The top-of-the-range pick-up was once produced in Hanover and will continue to be produced in Argentina. The latest version will also be made in the future in the South African city of Silverton.
