Tesla officially announces the third generation of humanoid robot

Tesla has released an announcement video through its official account on the Chinese social network Weibo, in which CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the third generation of Tesla’s humanoid robot will soon be introduced to the public.

It is a general-purpose humanoid robot that was developed based on the design philosophy of the first principle and possesses the key ability of independent learning through observation. It is these characteristics that have aroused great interest of the global technological public, while the planned mass production at the level of one million units per year is a strong signal that humanoid robots are entering the phase of serious commercialization.

According to Musk, the biggest step forward of the third generation of robots is reflected in the ability of autonomous learning. The robot does not need complex programming, but can learn new skills by observing human behavior, listening to verbal explanations or watching demonstration videos. In this way, it is able to quickly master various tasks and perform them independently, which significantly simplifies the interaction between man and robot.

Musk emphasized that it is a universal humanoid robot that learns new skills by observing people. According to him, it is enough to demonstrate the action, describe it in words or play a video, after which the robot can perform the task, and its behavior, as he claims, could surprise even the expert public.

It was particularly emphasized that the robot was developed with a completely different design approach. Tesla did not use existing supply chains, but the entire system was designed practically from scratch, relying exclusively on the first principle (radical redesign of hardware). Musk believes that precisely such an approach will enable rapid scaling of production and adds that the annual volume of one million produced robots could be reached in the relatively near future.

Analysts estimate that the launch of the third generation of Tesla’s humanoid robot could break long-standing obstacles in the industry, primarily the high price and limited production quantities. If the planned volume of production is actually realized, a significant impact on industrial production, service activities and home use is expected, with a potentially profound change in the structure of the workforce. In that case, the entire humanoid robot industry could enter its first real year of mass commercial deployment.
