The height of laziness or craziness: why would you clean the snow off your car, if it has a window?

Large parts of the US are covered in an atypically large snowpack these days. In New York, it fell almost 40 centimeters, Oklahoma City and Louisville are the record holders with about half a meter, Washington measures up to 30 cm, and in mountainous areas the situation is even worse. There is a lot of snow from Texas to Massachusetts, and many people don’t do very well in it.

This is how a video appeared on Reddit, which in a short time gathered a lot of attention from users, but also caused an avalanche of negative reactions due to the obvious non-compliance with basic traffic safety rules. Namely, it shows a typical big American pickup a pickup truck driving through a snow-covered city while its roof and front windshield are completely covered in a thick layer of snow.

Instead of stopping and clearing the vehicle to ensure some sort of visibility, the driver resorted to an extremely dangerous and bizarre driving method – he drove leaning out of the side window. Commentators are unanimous in condemning such behavior, and some point out that the driver’s idol is probably Ace Ventura, reminding of a famous scene from that comedy.

However, in addition to being dangerous, this kind of behavior is also punishable – for example, in Croatia, for driving a vehicle with snow or ice on it, you would pay 130 euros and you would be immediately excluded from traffic. The Road Traffic Safety Act stipulates that the driver is obliged to clean the entire vehicle, which includes all windows and rear-view mirrors, the roof, lights and license plates. Additionally, if the snow or ice that falls from your vehicle causes a traffic accident or damages another vehicle, you bear full responsibility for the material damage and possible injuries.
