The new electric “three” is the pure essence of the BMW philosophy

The BMW i3 Neue Klasse represents a completely new era for BMW, and not just any era, but the direct successor to the most important model in the history of the brand. It is the electric version of the 3 Series, a model that BMW itself describes as “the essence of its identity”.

The new i3 is based on the Neue Klasse platform and already on paper brings a huge step forward. The 50 xDrive version uses electric motors on both axles, with an 800-volt architecture, which allows for significantly higher efficiency and performance.

With 463 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque, this model not only aims for autonomy but also for performance that is in line with BMW DNA. However, the most impressive data is the range of even 900 km, which ranks it at the very top of the industry.

Much of the credit goes to the new one cell-to-pack battery technology, where the cells are integrated directly into the package without classic modules. This reduces mass, increases structural strength and improves efficiency.

Fast charging is also at a high level, up to 400 km of autonomy in about 10 minutes on ultra-fast (400 kW) chargers.

Design and technology at the service of the driver

Visually, the new i3 retains the recognizable BMW proportions, but with a modernized approach. Short overhangs, accentuated wheel arches and an elegant silhouette give it a sporty yet sophisticated appearance. The front part combines a reinterpreted mask with “grill kidneys” that have received a four-part light signature.

The interior brings a radically different approach. “Panoramic Vision” projects information across the entire width of the windshield, while the central 17.9-inch screen and additional HUD offer a fully digitized experience.

BMW also introduces a “supercomputer” concept, including a “Heart of Joy” system that manages steering, braking, regeneration and suspension. The goal is maximum integration and driving precision.

There is also Level 2 assistance, OTA updates, as well as bidirectional charging, which further positions the i3 as a technologically advanced model.

The BMW i3 from the Neue Klasse generation is not just another electric car, but a key model that defines the future of the brand and its most important lines, reports TopGear.
