Reviews for Crimson Desert send Pearl Abyss shares down 27%

The first reviews for the expected Crimson Desert game were published, and this time the ratings negatively affected the market value of the game’s developer.

Crimson Desert is finally on the verge of release – it will be available today from 11 p.m. The long-awaited action adventure in the fantasy world received its first reviews last night, and the rating average was formed: 80 on OpenCritic and 78 on Metacritic. Some would say that it is a very good result, others a shamefully low score.

Outside of the gaming environment, in the stock market world of finance and stocks, critics’ ratings for Crimson Desert were interpreted as if the game was something of a disappointment. The value of shares of the Korean company Pearl Abyss it’s like that overnight fell by 27%.

It’s not very often that any reviews have a significant impact on the value of one’s stock. But at Crimson Desert it does hype apparently spread beyond gaming circles, so I guess it was expected that the game would be the next universally acclaimed IP like Witcher or Elden Ring. And then a movie or a series would follow, as it goes.

However, the average score of 80 does not rule out that possibility, nor does it in any way indicate the game’s potentially weak sales. Just to remind ourselves – Black Myth: Wukong, as a completely new Asian IP, had almost the same average score (81-82) and sold more than 25 million copies and earned almost a billion dollars in the first month.

The point is that such reactions on the stock market are not the most relevant indicators of reality. For example, the stock market reacted negatively to the presentation of the Nintendo Switch 2 console, and Nintendo’s shares fell by 7% on that day. When the Switch 2 launched, it became the fastest-selling console in history.

As for Crimson Desert and our review, Hrvoje is finishing the game and will share his impressions soon, and in the meantime Igor will also comment on the first hour of this action adventure.
