Error leaked Alder Lake Specs, revealed prices and publication date

The American seller Micro Center just mistakenly publicly pointed out the prices for the upcoming ones Intel Alder Lake processors. Twitter account @momomo_us, which is published this information, took a screenshot of the Core i7-12700K and Core i9-12900K listings before the Micro Center removed them – and both show a decent price increase over 11th generation chips.

Intel Alder Lake processors Price

Micro Center released the Core i7-12700K for $469.99 and the Core i9-12900K for $669.99. That’s an increase of $70 per Core i7 model and an increase of as much as $120 for the Core i9! We’ve seen several leaks previously related to Alder Lake prices, some of which suggested retail prices and above $ 1,000 for the premium chip. This list confirms that chips are not that expensive, although they still cost more than the previous generation.

Although we recommend that you view all information with skepticism before the official announcement, the prices of the Micro Center are in line with some previous information.

Alder Lake looks more expensive than the previous generation, but it is more interesting how prices are moving compared to AMD. The Core i7-12700K is $20 more expensive than AMD’s rival Ryzen 7 5800X. However, the Core i9-12900K is significantly cheaper than AMD’s Ryzen 9 5950X. That processor was launched for $799, although it now sells for about $750. In any case, Intel’s flagship model is much cheaper with $670.

Intel Alder Lake processors Release Date

The list confirms the date of publication on November 4, which has been mentioned for a long time. Previous information leaks were related to November 19, but November 4 still seems to be the right date for the release.7

Intel Alder Lake processors Specs

The lists also confirm some specifications. The Core i7-12700K comes with 12 cores (8 + 4) and 20 threads, and a base clock speed of 3.6 GHz. The Core i9-12900K comes with 16 cores (8 + 8) and 24 threads and a base speed of 3.2 GHz.

Basic clock speeds aren’t too high, but like previous Intel generations, the Alder Lake has potentially high clock limits. The lists say that the Core i9 model can increase that limit to 5.2 GHz, while the Core i7 model can increase it to 5 GHz – both with a TDP of 125 watts.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but it also points out that no processor will come with a heatsink. Intel hasn’t included a CPU heatsink with its processors in the last few generations, so this is hardly a surprise. Fortunately, many CPU cooler manufacturers offer free upgrade kits for the new LGA 1700 socket.

Intel is hosting its Intel Innovation event next week, starting October 27, where we expect to hear more about the launch of Alder Lake.
