A great tragedy: the leader of the Battlefield franchise and the creator of Call of Duty has died


The tragic news comes from California, where Vince Zampella, one of the most famous developers of the gaming industry, died in a car accident.

55-year-old video game designer Vince Zampella he died today in a traffic accident. According to a police report, Zampella was one of two passengers killed in a car that went off the road north of Los Angeles.

Vince Zampella was a very famous and prominent developer responsible for the creation of the Call of Duty franchise and for Battlefield’s recent return to form. He was the co-founder of the studio Infinity Ward, which created Call of Duty, as well as the co-founder of Respawn Entertainment, under which Titanfall, Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi games were created.

Vince Zampella’s last job was in the role of leader of the Battlefield franchise. It was under his leadership that Battlefield changed direction after the disappointing Battlefield 2042 game and with this year’s edition managed to become the best-selling new premium game of 2025.
