Ferrari’s first electric model will be called Luce, and its interior was designed by Jony Ive

The Italian brand has been announcing for a long time that it will start producing its first fully electric model, but very little is known about it. However, when they published the first information, few remained indifferent to what they prepared in Maranello and we can only dream about what the whole car will be like.

Namely, these days they officially confirmed the name of the first fully electric car – it will be called Ferrari Luce. The name, which means “light” in Italian, replaced the working name Elettrica and symbolizes a new phase in the brand’s history. The model will be conceived as a four-seat, four-door luxury GT, with Ferrari targeting the high-performance family car segment, similar to the existing Purosangue, but with a completely new approach to powertrain and design. Along with the name, interior details have also been revealed, which completely change the design paradigm in the car’s cabin and bring unprecedented sophistication and style.

The interior design is the result of a five-year collaboration between Ferrari and the design studio LoveFrom, led by celebrated former Apple designers, Sir Jony Ive i Marc Newson. Their influence is most visible in the details, where a minimalist aesthetic dominated by premium materials such as 100% recycled aluminum and special Corning Gorilla glass, which is used for the control panels and gear selector. Because of this combination and tactilely perfect details, some are already saying that the Ferrari Luce will be the closest thing to an unsuspecting Apple car that we will ever get.

Physical controls

Although it is the most technologically advanced Ferrari to date, the interior resists the trend of moving completely to touchscreens. Instead, Luce introduces a series of precision-engineered mechanical switches, levers and dials. Each button is designed to provide a specific acoustic and mechanical response, the result of extensive testing with Ferrari test drivers.

The central part is dominated by a multi-layer display with a combination of digital and mechanical instruments, including a multi-function clock with physical hands that can be transformed into a compass or a stopwatch. It once again confirms Ive and Newson’s obsession with perfect wristwatch mechanics. Another prominent detail is the key, which comes with yellow graphics and the brand’s logo, but when it is inserted into the compartment in the cabin, next to the gear lever, that logo (thanks to the e-ink screen) changes to gray.

The steering wheel is inspired by the classic three-spoke Nardi steering wheels from the 1950s, made of “bare” aluminum with integrated glass controls. It also has the characteristic “manettino” selectors – the left one for the driving mode (e-Manettino), and the right one for managing the vehicle’s dynamics. The seats are upholstered in soft Italian leather with a ribbed pattern, paying homage to the brand’s historic models, while the rest of the cabin is covered in Alcantara.

Impressive performance

Beneath the exterior, whose final appearance will be revealed in May 2026, will be a drive system with four electric motors – one for each wheel. The system develops more than 1,000 horsepower, which enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.5 seconds. The car will use a 122 kWh battery pack, which gives it a range of approximately 530 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. Despite the electric drive, Ferrari emphasizes that the car will not have an artificial engine sound, but a special audio system will amplify the real vibrations of the electric motors.

Technical specifications also include an 800-volt fast charging system for up to 350 kW, active suspension and a four-wheel steering system with torque vectoring. Although the Luce is one of the heaviest models in the company’s history with its 2,300 kilograms, the engineers promise a dynamic driving experience worthy of the tradition of the horse-drawn carriage brand. A full premiere with exterior design and pricing is announced for May.
