Volkswagen is considering the possibility of bringing one of its cheapest SUV models to Europe. It is a Škoda Kylaq model that is produced and sold in India at a price of 759,000 rupees, or approximately 6,800 euros.
Although the European price would, of course, be significantly higher due to the costs of homologation and adaptation to regulations, the Kylaq could still be cheaper than the current Škoda Fabia, whose entry-level model can be bought in Croatia for slightly less than 18,000 euros.
“If you look at the Fabia and try to reduce the costs as much as possible, you are still close to 20,000 euros. When you look at the price of the Kylaq, between those two models, there is a huge space for a more affordable car in the European range,” Škoda’s CEO told Auto News. Klaus Zellmer.

Otherwise, the Kylaq uses the MQB-A0 platform adapted to more affordable models for developing markets, and is powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with 113 hp and 178 Nm of torque. A six-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission are available to customers.
If Kylaq really arrives in Europe, Škoda will have to adapt it to European safety and environmental regulations. At the same time, higher sales of the gasoline SUV could increase the brand’s average CO2 emissions, which is why the company would have to further increase sales of electric and plug-in hybrid models.
