British car manufacturer Jaguar has officially confirmed the name of its upcoming luxury GT model, announced by the controversial Type 00 concept in late 2024 (after which the chief designer was fired, but that’s another story…). The new model, described as a turning point in the company’s history and the transition to fully electric drives, will be called Type 01.
The name, they say, was carefully chosen to connect the brand’s rich tradition with modern technological ambitions, where the “Type” designation evokes legendary predecessors, while the numerical designations define its future.
Strength and tradition
In the new nomenclature, the number “0” stands for electric drive and zero emissions, while the number “1” suggests the status of the first model in a new chapter of the company’s development. According to Rawdon Glover, chief executive of Jaguar, the zero also symbolizes a complete “reset” of the brand.
The technical specifications of the new model, at least the basic ones that have been published, indicate top performance. Thanks to its tri-motor technology, the Type 01 delivers more than 1,000 hp and over 1,300 Nm of torque, making it Jaguar’s most advanced vehicle to date.
The design identity of the vehicle will be characterized by linear graphics, and the name Type 01 itself will be highlighted on a specific motif at the junction of the engine cover and the windshield. The goal of the engineers was to create a vehicle that is visually and drivingly different from any other electric car on the market, while maintaining the spirit of originality that has always adorned this British brand.
Premiere in Monaco
Jaguar Type 01 prototypes will make their first public appearance on the streets of Monaco during this week’s Formula E race weekend. The vehicles will wear a distinctive camouflage wrap to partially disguise the final appearance before the official premiere.
The official unveiling of the final design and all the details of the Type 01 model is expected at the end of this year. Its “extravagant modernist design” and pioneering technology will set the stage for all future Jaguar models, setting new standards in the luxury electric GT car segment. The transition to the Type 01 is not only the launch of a new model, but the transformation of Jaguar into a modern, exclusively electric manufacturer – say the British company.
