New 240W USB Type-C cable

Are we approaching a universal solution for charging mobile devices? We are already familiar with the efforts of the European Commission to impose legally USB Type-C port as universal and mandatory for use in all European Union countries.

Club 3D’s first USB Type-C 2.1 cables (not chargers) have now appeared, supporting fast charging of devices up to 240W, a feature announced last year during the USB Implementers Forum.

Club 3D, known for its older AMD (ATI) graphics cards, currently offers three versions of this cable that supports 240W fast charging. The CAC-1573 can charge devices with a power of 240W and data transfer speed at the level of the USB 2.0 standard, which means that it is intended primarily for charging, writes XDA-Developers.Standard.jpg

The second cable, marked CAC-1575, also brings 240W of power, but also a data transfer speed of 20Gbps, which is at the level of USB4 Gen 2×2 (who would be better able to cope with the names of all current USB standards). Finally, there is a third cable marked CAC-1576 which brings the same charging speed, but also support for data transfer of 40Gbps, which corresponds to the standard USB4 Gen 3×2.

At the moment, the company Club 3D has not yet announced the prices of these devices, and they are also not available on retail sites. However, this is the first clear sign that we are one step closer to a universal standard, at least in Europe.

For phone and laptop

The most important aspect of a cable that allows such high charging speeds is the fact that it allows one cable and one charger to be used for multiple devices, such as laptops, phones, tablets, consoles and the like, by charging two or more devices at once.

In addition, we expect chargers that can provide 240W of electricity, so the implementation of these cables will still have to wait a bit. Of course, we will see that in the next few years, and then we will see what Apple will have to say when Europe votes for a single mandatory universal standard.

In any case, in the future, not only the power of the charger will be important, but the characteristics of the cable that supplies the power supply will be equally important.
