only for Snapdragon X2 and no classic upgrade

Microsoft has officially confirmed that during the first half of 2026, it will release an unusual edition of the operating system – Windows 11 26H1. Unlike the standard annual H2 upgrades that arrive in the second half of the year, the 26H1 is specific and limited to specific hardware.

According to official information, Windows 11 26H1 will be available exclusively for computers based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 platform. It is clear that this version is intended for the new generation of ARM devices.

Windows 11 26H1: Changes in architecture and a different upgrade method

Windows 11 26H1 introduces changes in the basic architecture of the system, which is why there is no classic upgrade from the existing versions 24H2 or 25H2. Devices with those versions will not be able to directly upgrade to 26H1.

At the same time, devices shipped with the 26H1 version will not be able to be upgraded directly to the 26H2. Microsoft states that a single upgrade path will be established in the future, but it has not yet been specified whether it will be through 27H1 or another version.

Although the 26H1 will not support the hot patch mechanism, it will receive regular monthly security and quality patches.

For business users, Microsoft emphasizes that the 26H1 is not intended for mass deployment in corporate environments. Versions 24H2 and 25H2 remain recommended for standardized and wide application in companies.

Windows 11 26H1 is primarily designed for trial users and testing new chips and software improvements, without compromising the existing IT infrastructure.
