“Radically simple”: Audi Nuvolari is the brand’s most powerful model ever

On the eve of the Monaco Grand Prix, Audi officially presented the Nuvolari model, its first supercar with a high-performance hybrid drive. It was built on the technological basis of the Lamborghini Temerario model, and its production will be strictly limited to 499 units. With a maximum power of 1,001 hp (736 kW) and a top speed exceeding 350 km/h, the Nuvolari takes the title of the most powerful and fastest production vehicle in the history of the brand from Ingolstadt.

Powerful like a Lamborghini

The car is also the first serial model designed according to the brand’s new design philosophy, which is centered on the concept of “radical simplicity”, and is characterized by a monolithic volume, strong stance and titanium exterior color, which is also used on Audi’s Formula 1 car.

The hybrid powertrain combines a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine with a power of 588 kW (800 hp), which reaches up to 10,000 revolutions per minute, with three electric motors with axial flow, each of which develops 110 kW. Two oil-cooled electric motors are located on the front axle and deliver up to 2,150 Nm of torque, while the third is integrated between the V8 engine and the gearbox. The lithium-ion battery has a gross capacity of 7.3 kWh. This configuration enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds, while the vehicle reaches 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

Technology from Formula 1

Four-wheel drive has evolved into a system quattro predictive ridewhich proactively acts before a possible loss of grip in turns. The system continuously analyzes sensor data, including steering angle, acceleration, drift and grip level, and precisely distributes torque with targeted brake interventions. Drivers have four operating modes at their disposal, which can be adjusted via controls on the steering wheel: E-Hybrid for fully electric driving, Balanced, Dynamic and Dynamic+. For demanding conditions on the track, Track Mode is also available with settings from Wet and Dry to Race and traction control completely off.

The construction of the vehicle is based on the Audi Space Frame technology combined with a carbon fiber exterior, which is used for the first time in the history of the brand. Almost all body components are made of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, a production process “borrowed” from Formula 1. It enables the creation of complex geometric shapes, such as the hidden S-duct channel that directs air through the chassis elements.

Active aerodynamics and DRS

Active aerodynamics, developed with feedback from Audi’s Formula 1 drivers, automatically adjusts downforce (downforce) and air resistance. The central element of the system is an adjustable rear spoiler with three configurations, which in the most aggressive variant generates more than 400 kg of downforce. On flat parts of the track, the driver can manually activate the drag reduction system (DRS) via a button on the steering wheel. The Audi Ceramic Pro braking system uses a motorsport brake-by-wire system and long carbon fiber discs, with cooling that dissipates up to 21 percent more heat. The system has an energy absorption capacity of up to 2.8 megawatts, which is at the level of a Formula 1 car.

The interior of the vehicle is completely subordinated to the driver, with a reduced architecture and controls positioned directly in the field of vision. The digital displays and physical controls, including the anodized aluminum central display frame, follow a strict functional logic. The cabin is visually divided into two zones: the front part is made in a dark tone to encourage concentration, while the rear part introduces a lighter shade. Sports seats with a carbon structure further reduce the weight of the vehicle and provide firm lateral support.
