Near Yarmouth, Canada, on Highway 101 there, a completely bizarre traffic incident was recently recorded. The lorry, which was transporting a residential building on its trailer, was too high together with the load for the overpasses on that part of the road – but the driver obviously had no idea about that. To make matters worse, the truck was also accompanied by a van, but its driver clearly did not care about the total weight of the load either.
Hit, drive, hit…
The prefab house they were transporting got stuck with its top of the roof first on the lower part of the railway bridge, and then a bit further on the overpass, whereupon wooden parts of the structure and debris fell onto the road, creating a danger for other road users. Despite the obvious impact and damage, the truck did not stop immediately, but the “master” continued moving towards the next obstacle on the route, doubly damaging the roof of the house.
But twice was apparently enough, so the truck then stopped, and the police were called. An investigation is currently underway to determine whether the carrier had the appropriate permits for transporting such a large load. According to local regulations, moving oversized structures such as houses requires special permits, as well as detailed route planning by the relevant public works departments, in order to avoid precisely these situations and problems with infrastructure or power lines.
