The German automotive concern has joined a growing group of manufacturers who see the urban mobility of the future through autonomous multi-purpose electric capsules
Autonomous electric vehicles that will travel the city streets in the coming years and decades should be the basis of urban mobility. They think so Mate Rimac and Gordon Murray, think so in Citroën, Honda and General Motors, and they seem to be convinced of that in Volkswagen as well. They are at their DRIVE event. Volkswagen Group Forum presented the concept of autonomous robotics OnePod.
About Volkswagen OnePod robot taxi
Its primary purpose is to be an autonomous vehicle available on request. This concept does not differ too much from some already seen, and should serve as a platform with the possibility of a variety of interior configurations. Thus, the OnePod could be a shuttle for up to four passengers, a means of transport for families with children or for people with disabilities, as well as for the transport of all other persons (children, pensioners…) who cannot otherwise move around the city on their own.

The OnePod stands out with its large glass surfaces that allow sightseeing, but also with large screens in the interior that provide passengers with all the necessary information and enable driving control. The practicality of the vehicle is also shown by the possibility of lowering or raising the chassis, which can automatically adjust the height of the pavement – so that passengers in wheelchairs, as well as everyone else, can safely enter and exit through a large sliding door. There is also a bike rack on the back of the OnePod.

This concept was developed at Volkswagen’s Future Center Europe development and design center in Potsdam, and will be on display in Berlin at the end of the year at the Go.City – The Future of Urban Mobility exhibition.
