The president of Blizzard Entertainment stated that the American team will focus on developing new games from its existing franchises in the future.

Blizzard has gone through a big transformation over the last five years and some of the ideas they had ended up being crossed. If you have been following their work, you know that until 2024 they were developing a survival game, codenamed Odyssey, in a completely new world that is not related to their existing series. However, the game was canceled shortly after the studio came under the ownership of Microsoft, and now we find out that it was also the last chance for Blizzard to provide us with a new IP.
The current president of Blizzard, Johanna Faries, said that in the future Blizzard will focus on its catalog of franchises that have already proven themselves on the market. Instead of inventing new things, will stick to Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch and (hopefully) StarCraft.
“We have iconic franchises and they still have room to grow, so we’re focusing on what we already have. That’s not to say we won’t go in a new direction and into new territories one day, but for now our priority is to focus on the popular things we already have.” – said Faries for Bloomberg.
Blizzard is not known as a company that releases games every now and then. However, Faries reveals that the second part of the plan is that im the launch of new content becomes more regular. The idea is that Blizzard has at least two significant things to offer fans of its games every year, be it new games, expansions, or something else.
Currently, Blizzard teams are focused on creating new expansions for Diablo 4 and World of Warcraft. We’ve also heard rumors that a new StarCraft game is in development, but one that won’t be a strategy title but a shooter.
