Google has officially confirmed the dates of its biggest annual conference for developers, Google I/O 2026. After the traditional announcement through an interactive “save-the-date” page, the company pointed out that this event will take place on May 19 and 20, 2026 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California, with the possibility of following it live online.
For decades, Google I/O has been an important platform for discovering technology trends, new products and software infrastructure, from Android and Chrome to cloud services and, increasingly, artificial intelligence (AI). And this year, the announcement comes with a clear focus on AI technologies, particularly the development of Google’s Gemini model, as well as updates to Android and other key company products.
Traditionally, the conference begins with a keynote presentation, usually held by Google’s senior executives, which provides an overview of the biggest innovations and strategic directions for the coming year. Although the detailed agenda has not yet been announced, Google is expected to introduce the latest Android features (including Android 17), improvements in its AI models, and development tools for developers.
One of the more interesting elements of the announcement was Google’s traditional “save-the-date” page, which this year included Gemini-powered minigames, further underscoring just how central AI has become to the event.
Google I/O is not just an event for developers, it often serves as a platform for broader technological discoveries, including new possibilities in search, applications, services and sometimes hardware devices. In past years, some of the company’s biggest innovations were announced at the I/O conferences, such as new releases of Android or advanced AI functions in productive applications.
For many in the industry, Google I/O 2026 is seen as one of the key moments of the year, not only because of the new technology that will be presented, but also because of the signal it gives about Google’s strategic priorities in the era of accelerated development of artificial intelligence, mobile platforms and Internet services, reports Mashable.
