Final Fantasy XIV announced a new expansion and collaboration with the cult anime Evangelion

A big celebration of Final Fantasy 14 is underway, on the occasion of which several important things related to the popular MMO title have been announced.

Final Fantasy XIV approaches the number of 35 million registered players. It’s no secret that it’s currently one of the most popular MMORPG titles on the market, and Square Enix believes there’s an opportunity for FFXIV to find even more new audiences.

Therefore, it was announced that the game will get its own version for the Nintendo Switch 2 console.

The news comes from the big FFXIV Fan Festival 2026 celebration in Los Angeles. So big that our big Final Fantasy fan, Žarko Ćurić, is currently there. He’ll update you on the whole event once he’s settled in, and until then, here’s a quick update on the most important things announced for FFXIV.

At the beginning of 2027, a new expansion called Evercold. The level cap is raised to 110, new cities and additional areas are coming, new raids, dungeons, and PvP updates – pretty much everything you’d expect from an expansion.

What was not expected was definitely a crossover of Final Fantasy and the cult Japanese anime Evangelion. We have yet to get the details of this collaboration, but for now we know that it will be called Ghost of Desire and that it will have something to do with raids.
