Samsungaccording to information 9to5Googleis preparing a new generation Galaxy Book laptops which won’t use Windows, yet Android 17 on Samsungovim One UI 9 interface. The move fits perfectly with earlier reports from SamMobile that Google is developing a special version of Android for laptops and PCs, known internally as Aluminum OS.
According to latest reportSamsung is working on at least three Galaxy Book models with Android, intended for different classes of users – from more affordable devices, through the middle class, and up to the flagship series. The devices are described as “very stylish”, suggesting that Samsung is aiming for a premium design and slim, modern body, similar to the current Galaxy Book 6 series, but with a brand new operating system.
On the software side, these laptops are expected to run PC-friendly Android 17, based on Google’s Aluminum OS, an Android-based system aimed at laptops and desktops. Google Aluminum OS is conceived as a fusion of the best of Android and ChromeOS, with full access to the Google Play Store, a powerful Chrome browser and deeply integrated Gemini/AI support in the system itself.
What further sets Samsung’s Android laptops apart is the planned use of the One UI 9 interface on top of Android, meaning the experience will be familiar to users of Galaxy phones and tablets. In addition, the new, improved DeX mode should offer a more serious desktop environment – with better support for multi-window work, keyboard, mouse and external monitor, turning the Android laptop into a real alternative to Windows ultrabooks.
Samsung already has experience with ChromeOS and Windows devices: it offers Windows-based Galaxy Book laptops, while in the ChromeOS segment there is a Galaxy Chromebook model in the middle-higher price range. By entering the Android laptop category, the company is practically building the third pillar of its offer – in addition to phones and tablets – and making an even stronger connection within the Galaxy ecosystem.
As early as 2025, Google announced that it was developing Android for computers in cooperation with Qualcomm, and in the documentation and job advertisements, Aluminum OS is mentioned as a new platform with artificial intelligence at the very center. According to reports, Aluminum OS is designed to bring a “ChromeOS‑like” desktop environment to Android, with better productivity, multitasking and integration with laptop-class hardware.
For users, especially those in the Samsung/Android ecosystem, Android Galaxy Book laptops could mean far better connectivity with Galaxy phones, watches and tablets: notification sync, easy app and data switching, and a “one ecosystem, multiple screens” experience. If Google and Samsung successfully deliver this vision, the new Galaxy Book laptops with Android may become especially attractive to students, content creators, as well as “light” business users who care about battery life, simplicity and integration, and less about Windows-specific programs.
Although Samsung has not yet officially confirmed these devices, SamMobile and other sources have been hinting for some time that Android laptops are the logical next step, especially after Google confirmed that Aluminum OS is still on track for a 2026 launch. If the reports prove to be true, the first Galaxy Book with Android i Aluminium OS‑om could be one of the most interesting laptops of the next generation – and a serious challenger to Windows and ChromeOS for years to come.
