The Galaxy S27 series may bring UFS 5.0 memory, but not for all models

Although there is still a lot of time left until the presentation of the Galaxy S27 series, the first information about the next generation of Samsung’s premium phones is already beginning to reveal the direction in which the company could develop its devices. First we found out that it will return the Pro model and that it will bring with it and the most important characteristic of the Galaxy S26 Ultra model.

According to Android Authority, Samsung is considering introducing a new generation of internal storage, UFS 5.0in the Galaxy S27 series. However, due to rising production costs and expensive NAND memory, this technology will probably not be available in all models, but could remain reserved for the most expensive versions, primarily the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

The UFS (Universal Flash Storage) standard represents the technology responsible for the internal memory of smartphones, that is, the space where the operating system, applications and user data are stored. Although users often pay the most attention to the processor or camera, it is the speed of the internal storage memory that significantly affects the daily operation of the device.

The move to UFS 5.0 could bring even higher data reading and writing speeds, faster application startup, shorter game loading times, more efficient AI functions that process large amounts of data locally on the phone, but also lower power consumption thanks to the improved efficiency of the memory controller.

However, Samsung could make a compromise. According to available information, the company is facing significantly higher prices of NAND memory, so the possibility is being considered that the basic Galaxy S27 will keep the existing generation of storage, while UFS 5.0 would be reserved for premium models. Such a strategy would allow Samsung to limit the growth of production costs without drastically increasing the price of the base model.

This is not the only area where compromises are expected. The same sources state that the Galaxy S27 could bring relatively modest hardware changes compared to its predecessor. Some rumors suggest that Samsung may not significantly improve the cameras or the screen of the basic model, precisely because of the increasing costs of components. Instead, the company could focus on several key innovations that will be reserved for the most expensive devices in the range.

Such an approach is not a surprise if one observes the broader situation on the semiconductor market. In recent months, memory chip manufacturers have been directing more and more production capacity towards AI infrastructure, primarily high-bandwidth memory (HBM) intended for data centers and AI accelerators. As a result, NAND and DRAM memory for consumer electronics have become more expensive, which is already affecting manufacturers of PCs, SSDs and smartphones.

This is precisely why analysts expect that the next generation of premium phones will bring fewer hardware leaps in the basic models, while the most advanced technologies will more often be reserved for the Ultra or Pro variants.

It should be noted that Samsung has not yet officially confirmed any of this information. The Galaxy S27 is not expected until early 2027, so there is plenty of time for plans to change.
