The Steam Machine showed its first serious ailment – marked with the red color of death.
Steam Machine devices have an LED strip on the front of the case that is used to display the status of game downloads. However, at the same time, it also serves to announce the “death” of the device itself.
When the LED strip turns red on the right, Steam Machine has encountered a hardware (GPU) problem that requires component replacement. And one unlucky player managed to see that red light of death after only 20 minutes of use Steam Machine.
A user wrote on Reddit that the device became non-functional after installing the system update. Of course, considering that the Steam Machine has just been launched and is covered by warranty, the problem will be solved at no additional cost to the customer. However, everyone would prefer that such problems do not occur at all.
For now, it is not known how widespread this hardware problem is with the Steam Machine and how often it occurs. Due to very limited quantities of the device itself, we currently have a sample of only a few thousand shipped Steam “Machines”.
