A little exotic, because phones can still be very cool

At a time when every phone looks like the previous one (or the iPhone), we need something new more than anything. Not only in terms of design, but boldly from start to finish – in appearance, and especially in innovation. Although we will probably never see it in Serbia or in Europe, the Sharp Aquos R11 is just such a phone. Modern, different and daring in several new ways. From the choice of housing colors, through the shape of the camera, to the innovations it brings.

While Sony barely maintains its own mobile division in lifeanother Japanese manufacturer is not slowing down. Sharp has officially launched Aquos R11the direct successor of last year’s R10 model. This unusual phone brings unique innovations, high-end hardware tailored with the Leica company, but also some compromises that traditional users will not like.

Screen refresh rate up to 240 Hz and excellent robustness

The front of the device is decorated with 6.5-inch Pro IGZO OLED screen (1,080 x 2,340 pixels) with a refresh rate that dynamically adjusts over the range from 1 to 240 Hz.

This display sets a whole new standard for the brand. It reaches 3.600 nitawhich is 20% stronger compared to the R10 model, while maintaining good readability under direct sunlight.

It is protected on both sides by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass with water and dust resistance certificates IP68 i IP69. It also successfully meets military standards MIL-STD-810G i 810H for resistance to falls, extreme temperatures and shocks. Due to specific durability, Sharp officially points out that the phone can be washed with soap and cleaned with alcohol.

Leica cameras and ambient Aquarium effect

The rear side brings a powerful triple camera system with Leica HEKTOR lenses and an advanced 14-channel spectral sensor for ideal color rendering. Sharp and Leica put it this way:

  1. Main camera: 50.3 MP (sensor 1/1.55″, f/1.9, 23 mm) with hybrid OIS and EIS stabilization
  2. Ultra wide angle camera: 50.3 MP (sensor 1/2.55″, f/2.2, 13 mm) with a viewing angle of 122°
  3. Camera telephoto: 38.5 MP with f/2.4 lens, focal length 68 mm and 2.9x optical zoom (OIS and EIS) i
  4. Camera selfie: Another massive 50.3MP sensor (f/2.2, 23mm, EIS).

In addition to the cameras, there is an innovative light strip on the back that Sharp has named Aquarium. In addition to serving as an LED flash for photography and a notification indicator, this strip can project animated light effects that simulate the atmosphere of a crackling fireplace, rippling water, or rustling leaves. These visual effects are accompanied by relaxing sounds designed by the famous Japanese sound designer Shinya Kiyokawa.

In addition to being a visual attraction, in combination with a soundtrack, it can serve as a device for relaxation and meditation. When was the last time you heard of something like that on a smartphone?!

An unequivocally powerful machine, but…

The heart of the phone does Snapdragon 8s Gen 4which replaces the older Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. The new chipset brings significantly higher operating clocks of processor cores and significantly more powerful graphics, while a significantly larger steam chamber is integrated inside the case for more efficient cooling under load.

The device is delivered in a configuration with 12 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB UFS 4.1 internal memory. However, unlike its predecessor, Sharp is from this model completely removed the microSD slotwhich will disappoint longtime fans of the brand. According to some sources, the company was forced to take this step due to the increase in the capacity of the steam chamber.

The phone comes with the factory Android 16 operating system. Sharp guarantees 3 major system upgrades and 5 years of security patches. Autonomy is provided by a battery with a capacity of 5,100 mAh, which supports charging with a power of up to 36 W. How charging from the stone age ended up on such a modern device – no one knows! But we know that fully charging the battery takes up to an hour and a half.

The connection is at the highest level, so the phone supports it Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0dual-band GPS, and the USB-C port transmits data according to the USB 3.2 Gen 1 standard with DisplayPort 1.4 support for connecting to external screens.
